Adelaide A. Pollard (1862–1934) was an American missionary, teacher, and poet who longed to serve in Africa. In 1902, her plans were shattered when she failed to raise the necessary funds, leaving her feeling deeply discouraged and confused. That night, she attended a small prayer meeting where she heard an elderly woman pray: 'It doesn't matter what You do with us, Lord, just have Your way.' Inspired by this complete submission, Pollard went home and wrote 'Have Thine Own Way, Lord', yielding her disappointment to God's sovereign plan.
