I Surrender All

Judson W. Van DeVenter

An American art teacher, supervisor, and evangelist (1855–1939). For years, Van DeVenter struggled with a deep inner conflict between pursuing a successful career in fine arts or entering full-time ministry. The turning point came during a church campaign in Pennsylvania, where he knelt in prayer and finally surrendered his ambitions to God. He penned 'I Surrender All' to commemorate that decisive moment of yielding his life completely, which launched a powerful ministry that inspired many, including a young Billy Graham.

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
May Thy Holy Spirit fill me,
May I know Thy pow'r divine.
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Share Thy blessing now on me.
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory to His name!
I surrender all,
I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
