Edmund S. Lorenz (1854–1942) was a highly influential American composer, publisher, and author. A graduate of Yale Divinity School and United Biblical Seminary, he briefly served as a pastor and college president before dedicating his life to gospel music publishing, founding the Lorenz Publishing Company. Despite facing significant physical health struggles that forced him to retire from preaching, he channeled his energy into compiling hymnals and composing. He wrote the comforting classic 'The Hollow of God's Hand' (often beginning with 'With my Saviour ever near to guide me') in 1890 to reassure believers of God's safe keeping during the storms and tempests of life.
