Everyone experiences hurt at some point in life. It may come through the loss of a loved one, betrayal by a trusted friend, rejection, harsh words, injustice, abuse, or disappointment from people you expected would never let you down. Such wounds can leave deep scars that do not disappear overnight. The Bible never asks us to pretend that these pains do not exist. Many of God's servants poured out their grief before Him with complete honesty, and the Lord received their cries with compassion. He is near to the brokenhearted, comforts those who mourn, and heals according to His perfect wisdom and timing. As we bring our wounds to Him, walk in the truth of His Word, seek the support of His people, and entrust ourselves to His care, God works to restore what sin and suffering have broken, displaying His grace even in the midst of our deepest pain.

Scripture for reflection

Psalm 25:14–18

King James Version (KJV)
14The secret of the LORD [is] with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. 15Mine eyes [are] ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net. 16Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I [am] desolate and afflicted. 17The troubles of my heart are enlarged: [O] bring thou me out of my distresses. 18Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.

Reflection

The psalmist brings loneliness, affliction, and inner trouble directly to God, trusting that no part of pain must remain hidden.

Ephesians 4:25–32

King James Version (KJV)
25Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27Neither give place to the devil. 28Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with [his] hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Reflection

The passage joins truthful speech, limits on destructive anger, and movement toward compassion, showing that healing includes both honesty and transformed response.

Living this truth

If you have been hurt, do not pretend it never happened or excuse what God calls wrong. Bring your pain honestly before the Lord, for He already knows your heart and invites you to pour out your complaints before Him. Where appropriate, share your burden with mature believers who will listen with compassion, pray with you, and encourage you according to God's Word. If someone has sinned against you, remember that biblical forgiveness does not require pretending the offense was insignificant or placing yourself back into an unsafe situation. There are times when wisdom requires boundaries, accountability, or seeking justice through the proper authorities. If the hurt is deep, do not hesitate to seek help from a faithful pastor, a trusted Christian counselor, or another mature believer. God often brings healing through His people as they speak truth, bear burdens, and point us to Christ. As much as possible, avoid making major decisions while your emotions are at their strongest, but if you or someone else is in immediate danger, seek safety without delay. Throughout the process, remember that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and He is able to restore, strengthen, and sustain those who put their hope in Him.

Three practices for today

  1. Write an honest account of what hurt without editing it to protect appearances.
  2. Tell one safe person what kind of support you need right now.
  3. Choose a boundary or restorative action that protects healing without seeking revenge.

A prayer

Father God, lead me in the path of Your truth, and peace. Help me to release every feeling of hurt to You and to trust in You knowing that You are a Friend that stays closer than a brother. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
